Future Husker: Cody Green
BY BRENT C. WAGNER / Lincoln Journal Star
A photo with a legend: On Green’s personal page on a social networking Web site is a photo of two men posing in a hallway. On the left, a smiling Green. On the right, a man in a suit and tie with lighter hair, also smiling, as he appears headed for a meeting or out the door.
“That’s Coach Osborne,” Green said of the photo.
Green met the Nebraska athletic director this summer. He soon made the picture of himself and Osborne the feature photo on his Web page.

Of note: Rated by Rivals.com as the nation’s No. 10 dual-threat quarterback, Green chose the Huskers over in-state school Texas A&M. He’ll enroll at NU in January.
Friday night: The Broncos opened the season against Bay City. Green threw for five touchdowns in a 35-7 win.
Some people have commented on the picture. The folks from Nebraska write: “Nice picture, you got to see the legend.”
Others are confused: “Some just think I took a picture with an old man and put in on my profile,” Green said.
A lot in common: Green met Osborne during a trip to Lincoln.
“It was nerve-racking, because it’s not every day you see a legend like that,” Green said. “Once we sat down and started talking, we actually talked about football for probably 10 minutes, and then fishing for 30 minutes.
“We were telling stories back and forth. What he did as a kid is what I’m doing now. He said that growing up, and even now, he always has fishing poles in the back of his vehicle. I was like, ‘I do that now.’ My fishing pole is always back there, even during school.”
Green’s biggest catch is a 65-pound catfish, and he caught it with his hands. It’s called noodling, and it’s common in the South. One person finds a catfish hole and scares out the fish, while a buddy attempts to latch on during the escape.
This is my town: After sitting out most of last season with an ankle injury, Green says he’s 100 percent now. That’s good news, because Dayton is picked to win the 4A state title. And football, as you can expect, is a pretty big deal there.
“If you come here on Friday night you will probably meet everybody in our town, because everybody is at the football game,” Green says. “Dayton football pretty much runs the town.”
