NU news, 8/15: Wrestler says punishment is fair

Friday, Aug 15, 2008 - 09:27:37 am CDT

Kenny Jordan, one of the two men kicked off the Nebraska wrestling team for posing nude for an Internet pornography site, told the university’s student newspaper that he messed up.

In Thursday’s Daily Nebraskan, Jordan said he made a bad decision and got in trouble for it and also admitted his punishment is fair.

Coach Mark Manning dismissed Jordan and Paul Donahoe, a 2007 national champion, on Tuesday for allegedly violating NCAA rules by accepting compensation from a Web site that features gay pornographic images. Photos of the wrestlers, in which they posed separately, showed them both naked and partially clothed and were posted on the Web site, which charges its subscribers a monthly fee.

Soccer: The Nebraska soccer team opened its exhibition season Thursday with a 7-0 win against South Dakota at the USD Soccer Field in Vermillion, S.D. Nebraska finished with 30 shots , including 16 in the second half. South Dakota, a first-year program, finished with 11 shots in the game. Freshman forward Molly Thomas of Omaha finished with two goals — in the 81st and 88th minutes — and two assists. Senior Lindsay Poehling  scored in the 50th minute.
